100% Grunt Aotearoa and the Mahi Mātātoa experience was founded by Kawe and Jacqui Mokaraka, driven by their connection to te taiao (the environment) and their passion for helping whānau reconnect through outdoor experiences.
As parents, they see firsthand the impact of digital overload and the need for spaces where tamariki can explore, learn, and thrive in nature.
Together with their children, they’ve shaped Mahi Mātātoa into more than just a kaupapa—it’s a way of life, built on the values of whanaungatanga (kinship), mātauranga Māori (knowledge), and kaitiakitanga (guardianship).
Through camping, wānanga, and immersive experiences, 100% Grunt Aotearoa create opportunities for whānau to step away from screens, embrace te ao Māori, and strengthen their connections with te taiao — and with each other.
Your Guide
Kawe is a dedicated kaitiaki of te taiao, turning his passion into employment in pest eradication, youth development, multimedia production and outdoor leadership.
As the face of 100% Grunt Aotearoa, Kawe shares his outdoor lifestyle through video storytelling, hunting apparel design, and whānau adventures in hunting, diving, and fishing.
His qualifications include Pest Control and Hunting, Firearms Licensing, First Aid, Multimedia Production and PADI Scuba Instruction.
